HEY, I’M GARY

I’m based just outside Glasgow, but geography doesn’t really matter. If the energy’s right, I’m there.

I didn’t land in wedding photography by accident. I came through animation, art and graphic design first. Years spent studying movement, composition, negative space and how light shapes a frame. That background never switched off. It just evolved. When I photograph a wedding, I’m not hunting pretty moments. I’m watching for tension, for atmosphere, for the split second before something shifts.

Weddings are unpredictable. That’s what makes them interesting. They’re loud, emotional, messy, sometimes chaotic. The good ones have edge. They have pulse. They don’t feel rehearsed.

That’s what I’m drawn to.

I was born in Johannesburg, raised in Scotland, with chapters in London and Barcelona. I travelled hard when I could. Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Iceland, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, the US, Cape Verde, Mauritius. Different cities teach you different things. Different light. Different rhythm. It sharpens your eye. It makes you adapt. It stops you seeing everything the same way.

That perspective follows me into every wedding I shoot.

I proposed in Barcelona without a ring and without a plan. It felt right in the moment, so I did it. I’m married to Elaine and we’ve got three kids who keep life loud and honest. There’s nothing polished about real life. It’s full-on. It’s unpredictable. It doesn’t wait for perfect conditions.

Neither do I.

I don’t stage entire days. I don’t script reactions. I don’t manufacture emotion so it looks good on Instagram. I’ll guide when it helps. I’ll step in when you need direction. But most of the time I’m watching, moving, anticipating. Reading the room. Waiting for the moment that actually matters.

Some weddings feel like a riot. Some feel like a slow burn. My job is to meet it where it is and document it properly.

Cape Brit. Born in South Africa, raised in Scotland. Sun and sarcasm in equal measure.

I take desserts seriously. Brownies, doughnuts, sticky toffee pudding. If there’s a leaderboard, I’m top three.

I’ve got more T-shirts and sunglasses than any one man reasonably needs.

If I’m not shooting or editing, I’m out with my tribe. Elaine and the kids. Usually somewhere windy. Or muddy. Or both.

I love tattoos. Took me until 36 years young to start. Went straight in with a full leg sleeve. No half measures.

Buy me a solid IPA and we’ll get along just fine.

Double espresso every morning. Non-negotiable.

Put me near the sea or high up in the mountains and I’m in my element.

And if your wedding day gives us a proper sunset, I will absolutely steal you both for five minutes. No drama. No long photoshoot. Just you, good light, and a frame that hits.

I don’t photograph “perfect.”

I photograph LIFE AS IT UNFOLDS.

City nights lit by neon and candle smoke.
Highland air cutting through a quiet moment before everything begins.
Disco balls spinning. Jackets thrown over shoulders. Shoes abandoned somewhere near the bar.

If it feels like you, I’m there.

I’ll find the shadows.
The wind.
The empty street after the noise fades.

You won’t be stiff.
You won’t be staged.
You won’t be told to stand still and smile.

You’ll move. You’ll laugh. You’ll forget I’m even there.

And yeah, it’s your first time doing this.

Planning can feel loud. Messy. Unpredictable OR EVEN OVERWHELMING. I CAN HELP WITH ALL THAT.

But when the doors close and the music starts, none of that matters.
